My Morning Workout Routine and Cherry Bomb Shake!

Hi guys! The Fresh Mama Fitness  page is growing quickly and I'm pleased to say you will be seeing fitness related posts here. I receive many fitness related questions daily, so I think it makes sense to address some of the questions here.

Getting a PiYo workout in, no equipment needed! (Photos courtesy of my 8 year old)

If you follow the Fitness Page, you probably know I wake up at 5am most mornings to get my workout in before starting my day ( I  know..earrrly) -- but if I don't do it, then guess what? I probably won't get a workout in. This week I received multiple questions regarding eating and working out/running in the early morning and my morning routine. So here goes:

1. 5am: Alarm goes off (grrrrrrrr)... I might hit snooze once, but I roll (begrudgingly) out of bed by 510am.

2. Immediately change into my workout clothes (laid out the night before).

3. Brush teeth and head downstairs.

4. Drink a glass of water, then head down to the basement for a date with my PiYo DVD!

5. After my workout, I make a Shakeology smoothie or have 2 eggs and fruit or oatmeal.

Yes, I may want to hurl the alarm clock out the window when it goes off, but once I'm up and moving its all good. If you haven't tried getting up 30-60 minutes earlier for a workout, give it a try. You might be surprised how much energy you have throughout the day when you get the blood pumping so early!

As you can see, I do not eat before a super early workouts, however, if I am working out a little later in the day, say 9ish, then I eat a breakfast at 630am. This is because I get a horrible cramp/stitch in my side, if I eat immediately before exercising (especially running), so I am very careful to time my meals carefully and not eat within 2 hours of working out. It is important to remember to have carbs before working out and protein after. You need the carbs for energy and the protein for recovery, so plan your pre and post-workout meals accordingly!

Here is a recipe for my latest smoothie creation. I made this last week and wow, it was delicious! Perfect for a post-workout breakfast on-the-go! Here I am on my way out the door, heading to work... yup, I take selfies now. LOL!

Cherry Bomb Shakeology

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup frozen cherries
1/2 cup ice
2 teaspoons cashew or almond butter
1 scoop vanilla Shakeology

Blend and enjoy! How easy is that?!
